Coincide Vocational Community – Sandgate

||BACKGROUND||| One of the greatest challenges for Australian society is the separation of the generations. The separation impacts upon quality of life, health and a sense of inclusion for both seniors and youth. Education campuses and senior living facilities are often designed in a way which maintains isolation and intensifies the divide. Subsequently, The Grandschool’s Project has been federally funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) to explore new ideas to support participation and social interaction between the generations. This has initiated an investigation into a model for an integrated solution for healthy intergenerational learning and living on campus. The brief proposes to develop an intergenerational campus that addresses the mentioned concerns and works towards The Grandschool’s aims and visions. |||AIM||| Create spaces that can benefit the residents and student’s health, well-being, and continued learning through co-learning, co-care, co-fitness and co-creation. |||Vision||| Deepen relationships, connectivity, and understandings between generations. This is a ‘Change of Culture’ initiative recommended by IQRAC to decrease social isolation for seniors by improving intercultural understanding.
