CHARCOAL INSTITUTE

The Charcoal Institute in Imbil will support and facilitate research into land management practices through cultural burning as a new bushfire prevention system combining traditional land management and western science research. This building will act as a base of operations, research laboratory and Community Hub for Imbil. The Field Station is a prototype building typology, incorporating transferable details and systems that can be applied to similar contexts, to achieve best practice standards for this unique setting. The function of the building is to facilitate cultural burning and land management research whilst maintaining BAL-40 fire resistance.
