Architecture - Masters
Julia Street Urban Commons is a platform for providing financial, social and wellness resources to people struggling to find independence due to living with a disability. Julia Street co-locates essential support, advocacy and government service providers in a highly accessible central location, designed with public space and green relief as a key strategy for social change. Through integrating greenery to the built form, adopting innovative timber construction and giving back to the public realm, Julia Street is a new model for community engagement and support around social issues.
Tom brings a practical and socially minded approach to architectural design that is informed through experience in graduate urban design roles in both local government and private consultancy since 2017. Key motivators this semester were to explore laminated timber construction, develop a building around a landscape and consider the identity and interfaces of his work at the urban scale.
